Let us talk about the young Cincinnati 3rd basemen that have taken the MLB by storm with his incredible play in the first half of his rookie campaign. Elly De La Cruz, 21 year old, from Sabana Grand de Boya, Dominican Rebulic. The Dominican-born third basemen signed with the Cincinnati Reds as an international free agent on July 2nd, 2018, for 65,000. De Las Cruz made his first start for the Reds in the Dominican summer league at the age of 17; he appeared in 43 games with 186 plate appearances, 165 at-bats,47 hits,24 runs, 26 RBI,14 walks, 45 strikeouts with a batting average of .285 and on-base percentage of .351. De La Cruz would play in the Reds' minor league system for four years. And he absolutely when bonkers 263 games played, 1041 at-bats, 184 runs, 310 hits, 71 doubles, 22 triples, 49 home runs, 190 RBI, 71 stolen bases, caught stealing 23 times, and 94 walks, 333 strikeouts with a batting average of .298. Those are some great stats for a 19-20-year-old minor league player. Now let's come to the present day; it's July 18th, and we are currently in the second half of the season. Let's review De La Cruz's first half of his young career. De La Cruz's debut was on June 6th, 2023, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. De La Cruz went 1 for 3 with a double, two walks, one strikeout, and one run scored. The second start for De La Cruz was better. He went 2-4 with a triple and his very first homerun. Then a few weeks later, in a back-forth game on a Friday night against the world series, champions De La Cruz did the unthinkable he hit for the very rare cycle; he is the youngest player in 51 years to accomplish that. So from my point of view, De La Cruz has a very bright future in the MLB. He is a very exciting player, and I can't wait to see how he performs in the second half of the season.
